ENGLAND DEFENDER OUT FOR FOUR WEEKS
England and Liverpool have been dealt a big blow following the news that defender Trent Alexander-Arnold would miss the next four weeks as a result of the injury picked up during a Premier League game at the weekend.
At the end of the match (ended in a 1-1 draw), Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told reporters that the player won’t report for England national team duty. Klopp hinted that the injury is a serious one.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss the Home Nations derby between England and the Republic of Ireland. The international friendly is scheduled to hold at the Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Three Lions will also face Iceland and Belgium in the UEFA Nations League without Trent Alexandre-Arnold. In addition to the England games, the player could potentially miss five games for Liverpool between now and the start of next month.
Trent is likely to sit out the league games with Premier League table toppers Leicester City, struggling Brighton and Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers plus the home Champions League matches with Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam and Italian team Atalanta.
The England defender adds to the growing list of injury casualties for Liverpool manager Klopp. He’s already without important players like Virgil Van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho.
Dutchman Van Dijk will miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery. He sustained a nasty knee injury during the Merseyside Derby with Everton in October.
For new signing Thiago Alcantara, he has played just 135 minutes of football since signing for the Reds. He was also injured during the same Everton game. Brazilian international Fabinho could make his return from injury after the international break.
Despite the injuries, Liverpool continue to post good results in both the Champions League and the Premier League.
